What is the European Solidarity Corps?
The European Solidarity Corps is the new European Union initiative which creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects in their own country or abroad that benefit communities and people around Europe.
You can register for the European Solidarity Corps when you are 17 years old, but you cannot start a project until you are over 18. European Solidarity Corps projects will be available to people up to the age of 30 years old.
After completing a simple registration process, European Solidarity Corps participants could be selected and invited to join a wide range of projects, such as helping to prevent natural disasters or rebuild afterwards, assisting in centres for asylum seekers, or addressing different social issues in communities.
Projects supported by the European Solidarity Corps can last from two to twelve months. They will usually be located within the European Union Member States.

From 21 September to 21 November 2018, Fattoria Pugliese Diffusa (FPD) welcomed three volunteers thanks to the European Union’s ‘European Solidarity Corps’ (ESC). It was a pleasure to welcome in Taurisano Iulia Gabriela Badea from Romania, Roberta Spadone from Italy and Timothée Louette from France during this period.
The three ESC volunteers were involved in various ongoing EU-funded projects in which the FPD is involved: Street Participation for Active Citizenship in Europe (SPACE), The Long Way to Europe (TLWE), Local Solidarity – Global Solidarity Network (SOLID) and TIPS4EU. The trio completed various tasks such as ensuring the smooth-running of the street debates (SPACE), and presenting the TLWE project and the Solidarity Corps during the 2nd SOLID meeting in Lecce. In Taurisano, Iulia, Roberta and Timothée organised three events in the bar BeNormal. During these events, they handed out flyers and discussed with the people present three EU initiatives: the European Solidarity Corps, the Erasmus+ Programme and Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs. Our three volunteers also spent time in Taurisano’s ‘Queen English School,’ where they organised a tea party and played games in English with the participants. The trio also assisted the school’s director and teacher Maria Grazia Ponzo with classroom sessions.
The three volunteers were also involved in activities with kids in “Fate e folletti” kindergarden , where they played some games through books.
They organized the Halloween party in Fattoria Pugliese Diffusa on the 31th October.
Fattoria Pugliese Diffusa and the three volunteers are delighted with this experience offered by the EU’s European Solidarity Corps, as it enabled each party to enjoy strong added-value: Iulia, Roberta and Timothée gained knowledge of how European projects are run, and the FPD was able to add to its activities in the community of Taurisano.
